The Carlton Society is always on the lookout for fresh directing talent. Whether you are a veteran member who has secretly harboured the dream of moulding a theatrical masterpiece or a newcomer with a vision, the Carlton is the place to try your hand.
Most directors have an idea of the play they would like to direct, so we regularly send out a call for directors to put forward their ideas for full productions and rehearsed readings. The committee will then choose a lineup for the coming year, and will offer the Society’s full support for casting, producing and marketing the production.
You don’t have to be a member to propose a play, although if your play is selected you will need to join (click here for details of how to join).
We also offer a great deal of support for those who wish to develop their directing skills without the responsibility of taking on a full production. Most of our directors will be willing to take on assistant directors who want to learn the ropes – allowing you to shadow the director and get involved with decision making. The annual Carlton Showcase is also the perfect place to start out with a short scene or sketch – check the website for details of how to get involved nearer the time.
